Tell Me What Worries You Most???

I've been talking to viewers, people on Wall Street, my friends. Everyone seems to be worried about the current state of the markets and the economy, but then, when our conversations dig a bit deeper, a sub-set of worries emerges:

How long will it take to regain the money now lost in my kids' college funds?

How much longer will I be forced to put off retirement now that my retirement nest-egg has been decimated?

Should I pull all my money out of the stock market?

Could this all happen again one day?

Why, when I never invested in anything close to a credit default swap, am I now forced to save everyone who did?

    What happens next?

Folks: tell me what worries you now. We should be talking about these issues on the show. I want to hear your thoughts. Let me know.

    --Hang in there....

Can't Stand It

Folks: tell me what worries you now. We should be talking about these issues on the show. I want to hear your thoughts. Let me know. What worries me most is an Obama regime in the White House and the Ried regime in Congress. That reality is what, in my observation, affecting Wall Street and the world. This is absolutely terrible. People in our age always wondered how did Hitler get elected in office. Well this is how. How can people be so dumb.

At this point in time what worries me most is the people responsible for this mess will walk free and rich at that. I want everyone including Pres. Bush, OBama, Congress and all the CFO's and CEO's held accountable. Let them pay us back.

What worries me? The financial gurus generally are giving us the “hang on” bromide with respect to stock portfolios. After all, when all else is equal, history teaches us that the market shall rebound, and our patience will eventually be rewarded. Yes, but “all else is not equal”: We appear about to elect a president with more socialist sympathies than any of his predecessors. Capitalistic dogmas, like long-term market profitability, may easily be the victim of self-destructive collectivist mentalities—all in the name of “fairness”. That is what worries me. I only wish it worried more voters.

Are we going to have to pay taxes and insurance on all of the toxic assets purchased and in forclosure that the banks have so generously sold us at 700 billion? Are we also going to have to maintain these homes in some form of manicured state to keep the local governments from coming after us to get the yards mowed. the trees pruned ect..... until they sell. How much money is this going to cost us in addition to the 700 bil plus the 150 bil for congress to buy votes. When are the costs of this mess going to end?

I'm worried that liberal Democrats are going to cite all this recent government intervention deployed in the financial crisis as a rationale to recreate the "New Deal" across other sectors of the economy. For instance, Mr. Obama recently warned that allowing consumers to buy insurance across states lines was similar to financial deregulation and therefore an invalid idea. Anyone who knows anything about the healthcare industry knows that it's ludicrous to compare it to derivatives in the financial industry. Mr. Obama prefers that Government take a more active role, a-la the New Deal or LBJ's Great Society. However, history has proven that the New Deal was a failure in the medium and long-term. The economy in the latter half of the New Deal was actually worse. This is not my opinion, this is proven by empirical data. Despite this, in times of stress and uncertainty, people tend to gravitate to quick fixes, like the "New Deal". So, in answer to your question, this is what keeps me awake at night. Witnessing this financial crisis turn everyone into a New Dealer and watching the malaise grow inexorably onward for generations.

What worries me is the pure socialism that all of this represents and how it will take years to undue (if it ever happens at all)given a potential Obama presidency. The dems are responsible for this crap, but the republican minded pay--but then again, this is the way it has always been. The haves pay, the have nots (those who never will because they know not how to manage) take.

Here is what bothers me, the fact that America is no longer about American values, but instead about individual values and only what is best for "me". What happened to the days when the good values of work hard and you will be rewarded were instilled in children? Now, the moral of the story that most kids get is, you are "special" and you "deserve" everything. Furthermore, people seem to think that their neighbors owe them what they can't give their own kids (because they too weren't taught to work hard and reap the benefits). Horse hockey, this country is going to crap on the backs of the citizens, and unfortunately I don't think there are enough "good" people left to take control over the "me-first" losers that are taking over our society. This sucks, and as evidence I offer this, Canada is starting to look like a pretty good place to be.

I'm no economics expert, but I seen this coming years ago. My worries then were not about retirement because I knew I wouldn't be able to. I'm 45 now and I don't see the end of the coming Depression (deep depression) for at least a decade. Maybe two. That puts me at no less than 55. What am I worried about? My kids future in a country that would not be recognizable by my parents. That's what I worry about.

I'm concerened that we will run out of money before we die. I'm 80 and my wife is 71. My IRA has dropped 25% on this downturn. Back in the '99 through '03, about 20% was lost with very little restored.

What worries me most is that my fears and current feelings about the Stock Market are real and will be substantiated in about two weeks. My belief is that, housing and bank worries aside, the Stock Market is being manipulated by a few very wealthy individuals who want the Presidential Election to turn out a certain way. I believe that this is being accomplished via the Hedge Funds, which can have a direct affect on the market without ANY OVERSIGHT. I am not a conspiracy theorist by nature, in fact am by most accounts the eternal optimist. However, I can’t shake this feeling that there are forces beyond our view that want this election to turn out a certain way and are willing to do ANYTHING to make that happen. I hope I am wrong, but after FOX news’s Hedge Funds piece a couple of weeks ago, I have been watching and comparing the Polls, Media, and Stock Market and find an eerie set of coincidental rises and falls within the markets.

Government in our banks, our insurance companies, our car manufacturers, our mutual funds, our airlines, our bond insurers, listening in on our conversations, becoming the largest landlord in the world, and turning our republic into a joke in front of the whole world.

My worry is this: What happens if the next big terrorist strike in the US is this week, while the market is in near free-fall already.

Well, you asked. Dr. Walter Williams summed up my greatest worry recently when he wrote: "There is no question that if one were to ask whether we Americans are moving towards more liberty or more government control over our lives, the answer would unambiguously be the latter -- more government control over our lives. We might have reached a point where the trend is irreversible and that is a true tragedy for if liberty is lost in America, it will be lost for all times and all places."

What worries me the most? Bernanke and Paulson spending my money like drunken sailors on shore leave after 6 months at sea (hope not to offend drunken sailors by the analogy).

My biggest worry is that Obama will be elected and he turns out to be what people didn't expect or want. I'm worried that my life in America, as I knew it these past 50 years will NEVER EVER be the same. I do not want socialism nor what Obama has in store for us. Take a good look at McCain, for he may be the last true American hero for generations to come. I am not voting for Obama and I never will!!!! I am sure the Dems messed up the economy on purpose just to get a democrat elected. If this turns out to be true, then my biggest worry will have come to pass. God Bless America. I feel as if we are all doomed AND I have no hope.

I'm worried that Congress will keep trying to "save us". Hopefully they'll find another issue to politicize soon. Remember all the Congressional investigations on high oil prices? Why don't they investigate why oil prices are so low and leave the stock market alone:))
