    But What If It Works?

    Hi Gang,

Look. You know if you've read my blog, that I'm skeptical that the Stimulus monster plan would truly work the spark-plugs of the economy and get things going but for the past two days, I've only read negative things about it.  Practically every op-ed page in America is ripping this thing, saying it's filled only with pork (it's not... to be fair, $282 billion of it or 35% is dedicated to tax cuts) or that it's too much or not enough.

All this negativity tripped a switch in my mind. It's a switch my dad, the brilliant Dr. Moe Claman of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan installed many years ago in my brain when he told me, "If everyone around you thinks that something is a good idea, YOU BE THE ONE to question it. Conversely, if everyone around you thinks something is a *bad* idea, do the same thing. Question that."  In other words, take the road less travelled and that may very well make all the difference.

Which leads me to this: what if this thing ends up working?  The problem is that it'll be quite awhile before we'll know whether the medicine has taken hold, and things may get way worse before they get better.  Trust me, I'm still skeptical of this plan, but I'm a born optimist, and I'm willing to look at this thing and try to see if something good starts to sprout out of it.

    How about you?

One thing for sure, we can watch it together. I'll be here for you, don't worry!

I guess my problem is that I don't trust the source as being honest, so therefore anything they put forward is suspect. This thing was concocted in the dead of night, behind closed doors, under the guise of "the worst economic crisis since the Gret depression", a patently false statement. You're right, parts of it might shock the system into recovery but I think it's more like sticking a pin in the works of a swiss watch. There's a chance it could make it run better but the odds are against it.
