What'$ on the Menu When Buffett Comes to Lunch?

How much would YOU pay to pick the brain of the world's greatest living investor, all the while picking at a salad or steak? We'll find out Wednesday when a charity called "Glide" announces who has won the bidding of lunch with Buffett.

Warren Buffett offers up lunch once a year to anyone who bids the most money. The guy who won last year (and who gets to cash in at Smith and Wollensky restaurant in Manhattan on Wednesday) bid $2.1 million dollars for the lunch.

I'll be interviewing Buffett live on Fox Business at noonET on Wednesday right before the lunch.

Due to the rougher economy, it's a fair bet the lunch might not go for millions this time around but we'll see, won't we? The really lucky person in all of this? The Reverend Cecil Williams of the Glide Foundation who told us exclusively on Fox Business today about the day he met Buffett years ago. You will LOVE this story.  The clip is below.

Buffett loves this charity. Glide reaches out and helps the homeless, the poor, the downtrodden in the San Francisco area. Listen to Rev. Williams and you may see why one of the richest men on the planet thinks it's worth his time to 'say a toast' to Glide every year.

Buffet was an early and enthusiastic Obama supporter. The Obama Administration is moving this country inexorably towards European Socialism. How does that fit Buffet's investing model? Buffet has been a vocal supporter of keeping the "death tax". Were I to lunch with Buffet, I'd suggest to him that if he wants to contribute more money to the government he can do so on a moment's notice by writing a check. That Warren Buffet has taken "Glide" under his wing is admirable. However, for me it doesn't overshadow his other instances of judgment. I think I'll pass on bidding for the next "Lunch With Warren Buffet".

Liz, Warren Buffet declaring "Obama is exactly the right president for us" is a grave disappointment. Clearly, Buffet, as a "friend of Obama," is untouched by the power grab threatening the rest of us... If he were consistent, he'd not retain charitable foundations, protecting his own assets from public acquisition (taxation), but would freely surrender his own billions for government redistribution to those of us unable to avoid the decimation of domineering economic policies! But then, insiders always make gains, even in the face of sweeping repression. In fact they often flaunt the very laws they mandate others live under and are untouched by the justice the rest are accountable to. He may be a very wise man and an incredible investor, but he reveals that he prefers an environment in which personal friends are more important than the equality of freedom, particularly in the competitive economic markets.
